My Must-Have Items 2020 (That I’ll Buy Again Next Year)

If you know me, you know I have a bit of a shopping habit. I’m always trying out new brands, restocking my favorites, and stalking sale alerts. And while I’m hardly at “Confessions of a Shopaholic”-level of spending, I do fully love the process of finding that perfect purchase. That didn’t change at all in 2020. Even though I mostly had nowhere to go and few people to see, I still found joy in the products that brought joy and fun into my daily life. If anything, those products were probably even more important in the stress and solitude of the year. However, some products still stand out above the rest. These are the buys I made in 2020 that I’ll be using, recommending, and re-buying again and again in 2021….

Gigi Pip Hats

After I moved into my condo at the start of 2020, I finally had the room to make one of my dream decor features: a hat wall! Just like many of the influencers I loved, I hung up my many hats along my closet wall to display them, as well as remind myself to wear them more often. No hat looks better on that wall, and on my head, than the Gigi Pip fedora and straw hats I got this year. The brand is so cute and well made – I even gifted one of their beanies to a friend for Christmas! Whenever I decide to expand my hat wall, I’ll only buy from them 😍

I did a lot of digging into clean beauty in 2020. Since by April, we could all tell that we wouldn’t be going outside much or seeing people like we used to, I decided to make the most of that fact and upgrade my skincare game. We should all always take care of our skin, but especially now that I’m in my 30’s, it’s been more of a priority for me. This brand isn’t too pricy, works gently but effectively, and has clean ingredients. I’ve already re-bought a few products!

Jeni’s Ice Cream from Foxtrot

The amount of times I needed a treat at the end of a stressful day were too many to keep track of this year. I know I’m not alone in that fact. Luckily, I discovered Jeni’s Ice Cream (a favorite of President-elect Biden) and then also learned I could get it delivered right to my door thanks to the Chicago Foxtrot Market app. It was as close to a 2020 dream as I could have hoped for! Brown Butter Almond Brittle is my favorite 🍦

Natural LaCroix LimonCello

One of my favorite new finds for the year by far has been the new LimonCello flavor of LaCroix! Just seeing the colorful can raises my spirits, and it was my favorite at-home cocktail ingredients during this spring and summer’s quarantine.

Gemmist Shampoo/Conditioner

If 2020 was my year of skincare, then 2021 is going to my year of haircare. Since I basically took the year off of dying, cutting, or even styling my hair for the most part, I have been learning to embrace my natural hair color and texture for the first time since I was in high school. Overall, it turns out I like my hair! But, this year off of products and heat have also made me want to better care of my locks. That’s where my Gemmist subscription comes in! After taking their quiz, the shampoo/conditioner combo I got from them was custom made for my hair, and aside from the luxurious scent, they’ve been giving my hair just the pick-me-up I was looking for. Can’t wait to continue this journey in 2021!

195essential Notorious RGB T-Shirts

Am I the only person who bought a bunch of “VOTE” gear this year? Probably not haha Many of us got involved in politics in all new ways in 2020, whether that was just educating ourselves, or going further to volunteer or work as an election judge. For me, that enthusiasm also included (shocker) shopping! My favorite politically-themed item, and the outfit I’ll be rocking on Inauguration Day, is this bad ass Notorious RGB shirt. We can never forget the hard and impactful work of this amazing, notorious woman!

Your at-home celebrations will never be the same! I used these hilarious piñatas at both my park picnic birthday in the fall, and for my family Christmas Eve gathering over the holidays. Even small groups will get tons of laughter – and alcohol – out of their shipments, and that’s all we can really ask for after a year like 2020. NIPYATA now also has Drinkable Greeting Cards®, which I can’t wait to send out to the pals I’ve missed most of all this past year.

Cluck-It Chicago Carryout

I’ve been trying all year long to support local restaurants in the Windy City. I know I’m not alone in this quest! Wherever your hometown is, your local restaurants need your support. One of my favorite finds of the year was Cluck-It, a Nashville hot chicken delivery spot that is fire 🔥 Their spicy chicken is unreal and their branding will make you smile to boot. If you live downtown Chicago, order from them ASAP!

Isa Lazo Body Scrub

Your shower is about to feel a whole lot sexier! The branding, scent and texture of this body scrub is honestly insane. I was even tempted to leave the jar in my shower long after I finished the scrub, just because it looked so gorgeous on my shelf. It’s worth every penny, and then some! I also got their Toner, which is equally amazing.

Rosepops Bouquets

When I saw their website claim these roses were “everlasting,” I was certainly suspicious. But they’re as good as their word! As far as must-have items 2020 go, these were my most pleasant surprise. They come perfectly packaged and lasted weeks without wilting! I have a few friends with weddings in 2021 (as I’m sure most of us do!) and I can’t wait to send these as engagement gifts or bridal shower presents to my long distance brides.
